Ex-Ghana Star Lamptey Nearly Pulled Gun After Discovering Three Children Werent His

Former Ghanaian football star, Nii Odartey Lamptey, recently opened up about the deep emotional turmoil he experienced upon discovering that the three children he raised with his ex-wife, Gloria Appiah, were not his biological offspring. The revelation left him devastated, nearly driving him to a drastic decision. In a candid interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV on YouTube, Lamptey shared the intense feelings of betrayal and despair he felt. The video, uploaded earlier this month and translated from Ghanaian language to English by Pulse Ghana, details Lamptey’s harrowing experience. Lamptey, now 49, recounted the moment he discovered the truth in 2013 through DNA tests, confirming that he was not the father of the children he had lovingly raised. This shocking revelation led to the collapse of his 20-year marriage to Gloria Appiah. Lamptey admitted that he had a gun in his car and contemplated using it in his anguish but ultimately chose a different path after reflecting on his future.

The legal battle that ensued after their separation was long and contentious. In 2017, Lamptey won a lawsuit against his ex-wife, who had demanded 50% of his fortune. An Accra High Court ruled that Gloria Appiah committed adultery, nullifying her request for half of Lamptey's wealth. Justice Cecilia Don-Chebe Agbevey ordered Appiah to vacate Lamptey's luxurious seven-bedroom apartment in East Legon within 30 days. However, Lamptey was required to provide her with a four-bedroom house at Dome, a car, and Ghc200,000 as settlement. Reflecting on the moment he discovered the children were not his, Lamptey shared his near-decision to use the gun he kept in his Tundra. “Yeah, I took that decision [to pull a gun], but God spoke to me and since then I haven’t touched my gun. The gun was in my Tundra, but I decided I would not do anything," he said. Lamptey emphasized the importance of controlling anger, noting that a rash decision could have landed him in prison and prevented him from having his current family.

Today, Lamptey is happily married to actress Ruweida Yakubu, and together they have three children. His story is a testament to the power of patience and resilience in the face of profound personal betrayal.
