FG Offers 15% Discount on Logistics Services for MSMEs 🚚💼

In a significant move to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, the Federal Government, through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN), has announced a 15% discount on logistics services. This initiative, in collaboration with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), is designed to alleviate the burden of transportation costs for small businesses, ultimately aiming to boost sales and reduce operational expenses. The discount program will officially begin on August 26 and is part of a broader effort to enhance business conditions for SMEs. The Director-General of SMEDAN, Mr. Charles Odii, highlighted the importance of this collaboration during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Postmaster General of NIPOST, Mrs. Tola Odeyemi, on Wednesday in Abuja. Odii emphasized that the initiative is a direct response to feedback from SMEs about the high costs of logistics, which have been known to impact their profitability and market competitiveness.

Odii expressed optimism about the partnership, suggesting that the discount could potentially increase to 50% in the future, based on the program's success and impact. He also noted that the discount would be available to SMEs registered with SMEDAN through both online pickups and walk-ins, ensuring broad accessibility. The collaboration leverages NIPOST’s extensive national presence and infrastructure, which, under Odeyemi’s leadership, has been undergoing significant reform and modernization. Odeyemi underscored the importance of the partnership in fostering inclusive economic growth, given that MSMEs constitute over 90% of businesses in Nigeria and contribute significantly to the country’s GDP.

Both agencies will utilize their nationwide offices and stations to facilitate and expedite deliveries, aiming to make logistics more efficient, timely, and affordable for small businesses. Additionally, a dedicated customer support unit will be established to address any issues and ensure a smooth experience for SMEs. Odeyemi noted that while a 15% discount might seem modest, it is a substantial benefit given NIPOST’s already socially oriented pricing. The partnership represents a commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s economic backbone by supporting the crucial sector of MSMEs.
