Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, have maintained their 36th position in the latest FIFA global rankings, released on Friday, August 16, 2024. Despite their recent challenges on the international stage, the Falcons remain the top women’s football team in Africa.
This ranking update comes after the Super Falcons' disappointing run at the Women’s Summer Olympics in Paris, where they were eliminated in the group stage. The team suffered three straight losses: 1-0 to Brazil, 1-0 to Spain, and a 3-1 defeat by Japan, leaving them at the bottom of Group C. Despite these setbacks, Nigeria continues to lead the African women’s football rankings, followed by South Africa (50th globally), Morocco (59th), Zambia (62nd), and Ghana (66th).
