The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved a new standardized uniform and kit for Supernumerary Police, commonly known as Spy Police. This approval aims to enhance the professionalism and visibility of these officers, ensuring they are easily identifiable and present a well-groomed image in line with their duties. The unveiling of the new uniform took place on Tuesday, where Egbetokun, represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Finance and Administration, Bala Ciroma, emphasized the importance of this initiative. He instructed all police training schools to adopt the new uniform issuance model for Spy Police personnel as part of their training process. “In accordance with the Police Act 2020, and as part of our initiatives to revitalize SPY operations across the country, we engaged Messrs Synveego Nigeria Limited to undertake the standardization and redesigning of SPY uniforms,” Egbetokun said. “This was towards ensuring that our Spy personnel present a professional and well-groomed image commensurate with their responsibilities. Additionally, it was a step aimed at checkmating abuse and misuse of the regular Police uniforms and ensuring that our Supernumerary Police officers are uniquely dressed.”
Egbetokun expressed his satisfaction with the newly designed uniforms, which have been meticulously crafted and endorsed by the Force Management Team. He formally relaunched the standardized SPY uniform and kits, mandating that all organizations utilizing Spy Police personnel must strictly adhere to the new uniform standards.
He further instructed that “The Force Quartermaster and personnel across the states will guide the registration and acquisition. All Police Training Schools are instructed to adopt the new uniform issuance model for SPY Police personnel.” This move is part of a broader effort to revitalize the operations of the Supernumerary Police, ensuring that they operate with the same level of professionalism and visibility as regular police officers. The introduction of these uniforms is expected to reduce the potential for misuse of police attire and enhance the public’s perception of Spy Police officers.
