Ogun First Lady Distributes Cash, Food to Boost Breastfeeding

Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, the wife of Ogun State Governor, has distributed cash and food items to over 200 nursing mothers as part of an initiative to enhance maternal and child health in the state. This gesture took place during an awareness program held at Ilisan Primary Healthcare Center in Ilisan Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, in celebration of Breastfeeding Week. The event, themed “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All,” highlighted Mrs. Abiodun's commitment to promoting breastfeeding through education and community outreach. She emphasized the importance of breastfeeding as a fundamental right and essential for a healthy start in life, stating, "Breastfeeding is a right and not a privilege. It is more than just a means of nourishment but a vital pillar for a healthy start in life, laying the foundation for lifelong well-being."

Despite the proven benefits of breastfeeding, Mrs. Abiodun noted that many mothers, especially in underserved areas, still face challenges. She praised Governor Dapo Abiodun’s efforts in advancing maternal and child health through bi-annual Vitamin A supplementation and nutrition education programs that have positively influenced breastfeeding rates. Mrs. Abiodun pledged to continue addressing the breastfeeding gap by offering comprehensive support to all mothers, regardless of their situation. Her office plans to collaborate with healthcare providers, community leaders, and Civil Society Organizations to foster an environment that supports and sustains breastfeeding.

She also called on development partners, corporate organizations, and stakeholders to join in this effort to promote breastfeeding and improve maternal and child health outcomes in the state.
