In a significant development for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State, new executive committee members have been elected to lead the party at the local government level for the next four years. The election, which took place on Saturday, marks a new chapter for the party’s local governance. According to a statement from the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Borono Bassey, each of the 31 local government areas in the state now has a new set of 18 Chapter Officers, including one Person Living with Disabilities (PLWD) per local government. This inclusive approach brings the total number of PLWDs involved in the party’s leadership to 31 across the state. Among those elected was State Governor Umo Eno, who has been chosen as a National Delegate from the local government level. The Governor’s role underscores his continued influence within the party and his commitment to its future.
The statement highlighted the unity and determination that have defined the PDP’s recent successes. Governor Eno praised the collective resolve of the party’s members and urged the newly elected officials to work diligently to continue the party’s electoral success in Akwa Ibom. His message emphasized the importance of unity and hard work in achieving future victories. PDP State Chairman, Hon (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, also addressed the stakeholders, stressing the need for selfless service and dedication from the new officers. Akpan underscored that the PDP remains the party of choice for many Akwa Ibom residents, and it is crucial that the new leaders embody the values that attract and retain supporters.
The election was overseen by a five-man chapter congress electoral committee from the party’s National Headquarters, with Ene David serving as Chairman and Emmanuel Ekpe as Secretary. Their role was crucial in ensuring a smooth and transparent election process. With this new leadership in place, the PDP in Akwa Ibom is poised for a period of renewed energy and focus, aiming to build on its past achievements and address the challenges ahead with a fresh perspective.
