The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has firmly rejected claims that it charges a clearance fee of N649,400 for final-year students, describing the report as false and misleading. In a statement released on Wednesday, Dr. Sam Kpenu, the Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations at UNIPORT, addressed the erroneous claims circulated by an online media platform. The statement, titled āRebuttal to False Report on Clearance Fees for Final-Year Students,ā clarifies that UNIPORT does not impose such fees and that the university's actual fee structure is among the most affordable in the country.
Kpenu emphasized that UNIPORTās commitment to providing accessible and cost-effective higher education is evident through its comparatively low school fees among federal universities in Nigeria. The university also supports students facing financial challenges with scholarships and extended deadlines for fee payments to accommodate their financial situations.
The statement categorically denied the existence of any āmedical clearanceā or āadmissibility feesā as alleged in the misleading report. Kpenu urged students and the public to rely solely on official communications from the University of Port Harcourt for accurate information regarding fees and financial matters. The university also called on the media to verify information before publication to prevent the spread of misinformation.
